Obstetric Anal Sphincter Trauma- Conference

Dear Colleagues,

Fernandez Hospital invites you to a two-day session on Obstetric Anal Sphincter Trauma, to learn the skills of prompt recognition and repair.  We are privileged to have Mr Abdul Sultan and Ms Ranee Thakar, the pioneers in this field, who will conduct a Pre-Conference Hands-on Workshop and a One Day Conference on Anal Sphincter Trauma – on the techniques of repair, management of anal incontinence and the medico-legal implications.

Recognition of a perineal tear, and the ability to repair it, is most important in order to prevent anal incontinence and distress later. Sadly, we doctors are not given structured training during post-graduation. This certified, focused, training course by experts, will provide you with the much needed skills for safe clinical practice. We welcome each one of you, who provide obstetric care, to come – participate – learn and enjoy.

Obstetric Medicine Update 2010

Dear Colleagues,
The Obstetric Medicine Update – 2010, to be held on the 8th and 9th of October, 2010, will be the second scientific meeting of its kind.  The theme we have chosen for this update is ‘Emergencies in Obstetric Medicine: Early Recognition and Intervention’.

Medical emergencies in pregnancy are major contributors to maternal morbidity and mortality throughout the world. They pose a great challenge to all clinicians involved in this field. This Conference will provide an opportunity to obtain evidence based updates on common medical emergencies in obstetric practice from the pioneer of obstetric medicine, Dr. Catherine Nelson- Piercy, herself.

Author of the successful Handbook of Obstetric Medicine, now in its fourth edition, Dr. Catherine has over 170 publications to her credit and has edited four books. She is a consultant obstetric physician at Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital, London, and a Consultant in General Internal Medicine at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, London, Dr. Catherine is the UK representative of the International Society of Obstetric Medicine (ISOM) and a member of the Education Committee of the British Maternal and Fetal Medicine Society (BMFMS) She has been involved in the development of several evidence-based National Guidelines in the U.K.

Obstetric Medicine Update – 2010 will enable practitioners to interact with faculty, from across the nation and abroad, and will impart practical knowledge, so as to improve maternal and fetal outcomes and patient safety incidents in high risk obstetrics. The Conference will address medical emergencies in obstetric practice and early resuscitation through clinical scenarios, panel discussions, point of care discussions, symposiums, mock trials, and lectures.

We hope this conference will further the cause of the Society for Obstetric Medicine and that many practitioners will join as members. Fernandez Hospital welcomes Obstetricians, Physicians, Anaesthetists, Emergency medicine experts, and Critical Care Experts to its 12th Annual CME.
